The following are included in this listing:
1. Large Shadow Box (6"×6"×2") containing a Republique Dutchad (country of Chad in Africa) original commemorative stamp within original artwork. The artwork surrounding the stamp contains a depiction of Oppenheimer, the mushroom cloud, three B-29 Superfortress heavy bombers, modified for the mission under the "Silverplate" program to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Nagasaki and a third B-29 support aircraft. The first B-29, the Enola Gay, piloted by Col. Paul Tibbets, dropped the "Little Boy" bomb on Hiroshima, Aug 6, 1945. The second B-29, Bockscar, piloted by Maj. Charles Sweeney, dropped the "Fat Man" bomb on Nagasaki, Aug 9, 1945. A third B-29 named The Great Artiste flew as an observation and support plane on both missions. This Commemorative Stamp surrounded by this artwork includes Oppenheimer's est date of birth and date of death, followed by a short narrative in French. The top translates to "The Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Passing of Julius Robert Oppenheimer." This serves as the background held by decorative push pins.
2. The shadow box holds three (3) different types of Trinitite. From left to right:
- The first piece of Trinitite is a 3.3g piece of regular Trinitite. The piece's topside is predominantly dark green, but a bit of the more classic "olive" green color. The topside is surprisingly glassy and slick to the touch. With the exception of one side, the topside simply rolls over to meet the underside. The small side has a large "crater" filled with a bit of crystalline with cluster of small "craters" on the side.
- The second piece is an extremely rare 2.9g piece of glossy green Trinitite with large amounts of black spots, and "beads" of silica on the topside (fused with pieces of the towers holding Gadget). The green color can appear dark, bright, and even pastel depending on its position in the light. This piece is thick with a uniquely shaped underside. The topside does have gloss and feels a bit rough to touch. The shape and markings on the topside is like a toad's back! There are a couple of craters on the twisted sides and edges, but the topside is the focal point. Given the amount of black in this piece, it formed at detonation, at or near ground zero.
- The third piece is a rare 2.3g dark glassy green piece of Trinitite. This piece not only has black striations, but also an area of purple on the topside, indicating it fused with pieces from the steel tower and picked up a small amount of copper from the copper wiring wrapped around Gadget and laid across the desert floor. The topside is glassy and smooth to the touch. This piece is thinner than the first two pieces, shaped like an arrowhead. Although it's thinner, the wider sides have tight clusters of crystallizations and a couple of "craters" lined with glistening crystalline.
All orders come with a Certificate of Authenticity Card, Independent Lab's Gamma Spectrum graph results, and the Scientist's personal notes in a plastic sheath to prevent damage. The backside of the Certificate of Authenticity Card for this order has #69, #4, #32 (respective to each piece) and its provenance: Dr. Ralph Pray Collection. This is to maintain each piece's provenance for historical purposes.
Notice: All of our Trinitite has been tested as authentic. Orders are shipped in compliance with Section 13 from part 40 of the NRC Nuclear Regulatory Commission rules and regulations and Postal Service regulations specified in 49 CFR 173.421 for activity limits of low-level radioactive materials. We ship all items by Postal Service activity limits specified in Publication 52. The sale of the trinitite complies with all U.S. Federal regulations.
* Much of our collection is rare for a couple of reasons. Our collection contains Baratol (Ba-130, Ba-132, Ba-133 peaks), meaning our pieces were gathered close to the detonation site.*
